<완독인증 및 공지글> 영어원서읽기 Matilda 7~9월

 

 

몇년 전에 영어독서에 관한 책을 읽었다. 그리고 그 책을 쓴 저자의 블로그를 찾는 과정에서

어떤 사람의 블로그를 열심히 읽게 되었다. 그게 바로 '워킹맘 말랑이'블로그 였다.

저 블로거의 이웃이 되고 같이 미라클 모닝을 했고, 운동모임 인증 단톡방에서 거의 3년을 만나고 있다.

그 인연으로 1년 가까이 독서모임에도 참여하게 되었고, 영어독서도 같이 하게 되었다.

(저 분의 성장과정을 지켜보면서 많이 배우고 있는 중)

 

작년엔 말랑이님이 운영하는 원서읽기 모임에서 Flipped, Wonder, Can you keep a secrit, me before you 책들을 읽었다.

이제 혼자서도 읽을 수 있지! 하는 다짐과 내가 읽어야 할 책들이 많은 관계로 한동안 참여를 안했었다.

그러다가 무기력이 바닥을 찍었던 봄을 겨우 지나고 한여름부터 살아나고자 7~9월간 마틸다 원서 읽기에 참여했다.

 

말랑이님이 운영하는 영어원서읽기 스케줄은

첫달 책 읽기, 두번째 달엔 오디오 북 듣고 녹음하기, 세번째 달에 단어 뽑아서 문장만들기로 구성되어 있다.

혼자서는 절대 못할 녹음도 여럿이 같이 하니까 자극이 되어 못하는 실력일지라도 꾸준히 완주하게 되는게 큰 장점이다.

사실 마틸다는 혼자서 이미 읽어서 재독이였지만, (Matilda (tistory.com)

이번엔 좀 더 몰입해서 읽었고 그 기록을 남겨본다.

7월엔 그냥 독서하기

전자책도 있고, 종이 책도 있고, 아이들용 번역서도 가지고 있지만

이번엔 거의 전자책으로 봤다.

(내가 가진 리더기는 오닉스 poke 프로2인데 킨들앱 깔아서  원서도 잘 보고 있다. 

word wise 기능 덕분에 단어 안 찾고 읽을 수 있어서 정말 편하다.)

 

 

 

 

원서를 읽다보면 늘 쉬운건 쉽게 이해하고 모르는건 대충 넘어가는데

대충 넘어갔던 문장들이 뒤에 줄거리 덕분에 해석이 되면서 쉽게 이해가 되는 경우가 많다.

그런 순간을 맞이할 때면 책 읽기에 큰 재미를 느끼게 된다.

 

8월은 낭독 녹음하기

예전에 wonder 읽을 땐 낭독은 절반 정도 밖에 못했다. 

이번 Matilda는 끝까지 녹음을 해서 정말 뿌듯했다.

단톡방 인증할때 대부분의 분들이 녹음 파일을 올렸지만, 난 결국 파일 공개는 하지 못했다.

아무에게도 공개 안 할거면서도 내 발음과 속도에 자괴감이 몰려오는

많은 순간을 극복하느라 애썼다. 

오디오북의 챕터별 낭독 시간과 내 녹음시간을 비교하면 큰 속도 차이가 남을 알 수 있었다.

8월은 휴가철이라 휴가도 짧게 길게 몇번이나 다녀왔는데

가족들이 내 낭독을 듣느라 괴로워하든 말든

나는 책을 들고다니면서 틈틈히 녹음을 했다.(생각 할 수록 자랑스러움)

 

 

 

 

 

9월 챕터별로 단어 뽑아서 문장만들기

종이책 다시 펼쳐서 모르는 단어 밑줄긋고 문장만들기 연습하는데,

이게 약간의 숙제부담으로 다가와서 미루고 미루다가 마지막 일주일에 몰아서 해버렸다.

 

단어 고르고 그 문장 옮겨 적은 다음, 그 단어로 나만의 문장만들기.

한국말을 먼저 떠올리고 영작을 하려니 쉽지 않았고 이게 정말 이치에 맞는 표현인가 답답한 순간도 있었지만

신기하게 재미도 있었다. 학생이 되어서 공부하는 느낌과 적절한 숙제 압박이 새로운 자극이 되었다.

 

1. transport into
21p. The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives.
That song transported me into my childhood that was warm and bright. so when I was depressed I used to listen to that song.

2. flaming 격렬한, 불타는, 지독한
p.33 I haven’t touched the flaming stuff.
I’ve hated a flaming argument 

 

3. infuriate 극도로 화나게 하다.

p.38 She kept right on reading and for some reason this infuriated the father./
His lazy behavior infuriated her.

4. sulk 부르퉁하다, 샐쭉하다

p.41 She seemed to know that neither crying nor sulking ever got anyone anywhere./
He listened my story and looked like angry. then he went home sulking.

 

5. incapable of ~ing
59p He was incapable of entering any room quietly./
She was incapable taking care of her childeren alone. so she hired a nany who had a lot of exprience.

6. put up with
p.49 the fact that they were none of these things was something she had put up with./
I’ve put up with anyting for my children.

7.limerick 
p.78 It’s called a limerlick./
This limerick that found at the library yesterday was written by a woman who lived five hundred years ago.

8. possess 

p.82 She had just met small girl who possessed /
She had possessed great expectations.

9. simpering 히죽히죽 웃는, 멍청하게 웃는 v simper
p.99 casting a look of such simpering sloppiness at his wife it would have made a cat sick./
I was looking at a silly simpering girl.

10. outward,표면적으로, 외형상의/
p. 101. she displayed almost no outward signs of her brilliance and she never showed up. /
He seemed no outward kindness.

11. apprehension 우려, 불안 = anxiety
p.120. His plump flabby face had turned grey with fearful apprehension/
This city is surrounded by apprehension of war.

12. swot (특히 시험에 대비해서)열심히 공부하다.
p.135. I strongly advise you to swot it up when you get home tonight. /
I have swotted a mathmatics up, so I could win the first prize at the mathmatics contest.

13. swell up 붓다, 부풀다, 부어오르다
P.144 The Trunchbull’s whole body and face seemed to swell up. /
My face was beginning to swell up after I had the mushroom soup.

14.smoulder (불이 불꽃없이)타다, (불만이 속으로)들끓다.
p.161 The fires of fury and hatred were smouldering in her small brack eye.s /
l felt like my mind smouldered with anger.

15. gape (놀라서) 입을 딱 벌리고 바라보다
p.175 She gaped at the glass, leaning well away from it./
I gaped at him when he dyed his hair pink.

16 animate 생기를 불어넣다

p.177 Matilda all of a sudden became wildly animated./

I've loved his animated face and smile

 

17. hunched up. 움츠리다
194 Her shoulders were hunched up high./
She didn't pass the test so her shoulders were hunched up.

18. ponder 숙고하다=consider
p.209 Matilda pondered these answers very carefully./
I have pondered what I really want to do for long time ago

19.colossal 거대한, 엄청난
p.213 With a colossal effort, she managed to hold it there for about ten seconds./

He made a colossal statue to memory his wife.

20. bewilder 어리둥절하게[혼란스럽게] 만들다

p.218 By now Wilfred was far too trightened and bewildered even to speak./
I was bewildered by his rude jokes

21. perch 앉아있다. 걸터앉다.
p.230 Matilda, who was perched on a tall stool at the kitchen table, ate her bread and jam slowly./
When he came back home I was perching on chair in my garden
